WBR Yamaha’s Koby Hantis continues to carry the MX3 points leaders red plate on his YZ250F after five rounds of the ProMX after another podium result at round five of the championship in South Australia.
In a eventful day of racing in the MX3 division that saw plenty of movement on the championship leader board, it was Hantis who remained solid and consistent to rack up 4-4 results on the day to snare third for the round and now carry a twelve point lead in the championship.While not on the same pace as the race leaders on the weekend, Hantis used the same traits that have seen him carry the red plate for the majority of the series to grind out another solid result. Hantis puts up a fight on every lap and every race he starts. He time and again battled his way through the field to put himself in the top four using his street smarts, good fitness and consistent pace to wind up on the podium again and carry the good form he has shown in 2024.
“Riding in these softer surfaces probably isn’t my strong point but I feel like I’m getting better on them and improving each time we race. My starts weren’t great today and I have to work hard at the beginning of each moto to get some track position but that just allowed the lead group to get away.
“Happy to keep the red plate and look forward to the final three rounds in Queensland and back on some harder dirt,” Hantis ends.
The rest of the WBR Yamaha riders had a mixed day with one good moto and one not so good moto that kept everyone busy. Kobe Drew rode well in race one to finish third but was then involved in a first lap crash on race two and could only get back to eleventh place. His 3-11 results netted him sixth for the round and keep third in the championship.
Kayd Kingsford was looking good in the opening moto and inside the top three, only to have a mechanical issue force him to withdraw from the race. He was determined to fight back in moto two and that’s exactly what he did, charging all the way to the end to finish second and within a handful of seconds of the race leader. The DNF-2 combination gave him eighth for the round and currently holds fourth in the championship.
Seth Burchell was also part of the one up and one down brigade finishing outside of the points in race one after a crash but then rebounded to take fifth in race two. Burchell maintained his ninth place in the championship.
